Sir:-
With reference to your despatch No.14 of February 23rd
on the subject of the Pratas Islands, I have the honour
to enclose copies and translations of two extracts from
Canton newspapers referring to the reported occupation of
the islands by Japanese traders.
My Japanese colleague Er. Segawa has received no com-
munication on the subject and has no knowledge of the alleg-
ed occupation.
I am forwarding copies of this despatch and its en-
closures to the Governor of Hongkong and the Commander-in-
Chief on the China station.
Sir J.N. Jordan, K.C.M.G.,

I have &c.,
Harry H. Fox.
Acting Consul General.
